Year 7 boys triumphant

26th May 2017

Year Seven boys’ football team returned to The Vale with a cup after beating Sir John Nelthorpe 4-1 in a North Lincolnshire final.

Undefeated in group games, played since September, they qualified for the competition’s final stages.

The boys beat Scunthorpe’s Melior Community Academy in a close fought semi-final.

They had several players, including their captain, ruled out by injury beforehand but were triumphant regardless.

The first half of the final against Sir John Nelthorpe was very closely contested as both teams put on an excellent performance for the supporters, said Mr Hughes.

But The Vale’s quality and determination shone through in the second half with the final score 4-1. Bailey Rhodes grabbed two goals with the others from Jake Forman and Lewis Pickett.

Student  Charlie Robinson said: “I was so happy to be playing in the final after missing the semi-final due to injury.

“We worked well as a team, and outclassed them in the second half. The whole squad of players did really well.”

Ryan Jordan played out of position in goal after the regular keeper broke his arm.

“The sun was really bright, so it made it tough,” he said.

“I was disappointed to concede one goal just before half time, but we managed to keep a clean sheet in the second half and score three quality goals.

Mr Hughes  was “really proud” of the squad that competed in the final.

“They’d put a lot of pressure on themselves to win, and I’m really glad they did. I’m looking forward to next year already. Hopefully, we can defend the title,” he said.

Principal Nicola Williams added her congratulations.

“Well done to the Year 7 boys on bringing the cup back to The Vale,” she said.
