Has The Vale got The Voice?

Two talented students have won through to the regional audition stages of the popular television show.

Heather Peers (pictured) and Beth Gibson (below) impressed two producers from the ITV show when they turned up at the academy to film hopefuls.

Both know there is a long way to go before a chance of appearing on the small screen but were delighted to have made it through to the next stage, said curriculum leader for music Jayne Keeler.

She said: “The evening was a huge success and students gained valuable experience performing in front of the camera and also being interviewed by the producers about their aspirations.

“I am delighted to say Beth (Year 11) and Heather (Year 12) had a call to invite them to perform at Manchester for the next audition round.

“I am, as always, extremely proud of our students’ achievements.”

Principal Nicola Williams was excited to hear of the youngsters’ success.

“We have some incredibly talented young people at The Vale and this was another opportunity for them to shine,” she said.

“Well done to everybody who performed before the producers, with particular congratulations to Beth and Heather. We hope it goes well for them both in Manchester.”

A spokesperson for The Voice added their congratulations.

“We’re at the very early stages of finding people for the next series of The Voice,” he said.

“Our producers are out there looking for talented young people and well done to those getting through to the next stage of the audition process. But there’s a long way to go.”

Heather (16) had a busy evening as she went on to the semi-finals of Class Act where she won a place to represent the academy in the finals on June 15 for the third successive year.

The annual Scunthorpe Telegraph competition will take place at the town's Redbourn Social Club.

Tickets for the final, priced £5, are on sale at the Redbourn Club. Telephone 01724 861685.
