Five-a-side champions

12th December 2016

All conquering Year 7 footballers will represent North Lincolnshire after winning a prestigious five-a-side competition.

The nine boys won the county’s English Schools’ Football Association’s indoor competition after beating a host of North Lincolnshire schools.

They topped their league and then went on to beat St Bede’s  2-0 in quarter final; Brumby 2-0 in semi final; and Fred Gough 1-0 in the final.

The trophy adds to their unbeaten in the league since starting at the Vale Academy.

Teacher Richard Hughes congratulated the team on a “terrific tournament”.

“Myself and the parents commented on how exceptional they were as a team and how they didn’t concede a goal all night,” he said. “That is an awesome achievement!”

The team are now regional representatives and will go on to Derby County next month (January) to play in the East Midlands region against other schools.

Bailey Rhodes (11) said: “It was an amazing tournament and we played really well as a team and I am delighted that I was top scorer.”

Charlie Robinson (11) said he was “really proud to be captain of an amazing team.”

“We all played really well together and I can’t wait to go to Derby County.”
