District champions

6th October 2016

Excellent performances saw The Vale Academy’s under 16s’ netball team become district champions.

The nine students travelled with Miss Nicola Hewitt, PE teacher, to St Bede’s School in Scunthorpe to the North Lincolnshire Schools’ under 16 netball tournament.

Miss Hewitt said: “The team put in several excellent performances in difficult and windy conditions.

“After finishing top of our league we beat St Bede’s 14-1 in the semi-finals. The highlight of the tournament was beating Frederick Gough School 13-4 in the final.”

Team member Chloe Meakin (15) said: “I really enjoyed the netball tournament.  The team played really well.

“We only conceded three goals in the group stages and then only conceded four in the final to a good Frederick Gough team.

“I was really happy to beat Frederick Gough in the final as they are always a really good team.”

Principal Nicola Williams congratulated the team.

“To become district champions is a fantastic achievement for the girls,” she said. “Well done to them and also the staff who have coached and encouraged the team.

“It’s another example of how successful we are in sport, which plays an important role in the life of the academy.”
